The union leadership have been put in a unique position. On one hand they are very pro-safety orientated. At the same time there's a powerful segment of them at the local level, Bob Shiprack of MLAC being one of them, who put safety far down on the list of concerns because lower compensation premiums bring more work to Oregon for union labor. I have union influence at the national level and I'm pushing hard to make safety first and upmost. Bob Shiprack DOES NOT represent the views of the vast majority of brothers.
