Oregonians get what they deserve. My experience is that workers here roll over easily. They accept their situations no matter how unsafe, how filthy or how uncomfortable. It's the cowboy way. You're looked at as being a freak or a whiner if you point out the bad work conditions of the jobsite or workers' unsafe habits. Until employers find it cost effective to keep their workers really safe and develop positive safety programs the workers will go quietly into the bad night.
OSHA was gutted years ago. Theoretically, you don't need OSHA. You need common sense and character.
I know a guy who was too scared to testify on my behalf even though he saw me get injured. I heard a few months later he rode a scissor lift right up into an I-beam and wrecked his neck. I wonder who came forward on his behalf.
