Injured Man Waits 35 Years for Compensation

New York - Bob Manning, who’s now 60, fell head first off a utility pole in 1962, and was left paralyzed.

He’s had 24-hour medical care for 35 years, but still hasn’t received a penny in the nearly $2 million in awards he’s entitled to from the New York state Workers’ Compensation Board.

The Board won’t pay because the employer’s insurer, Utilities Mutual Insurance Company, won’t fork over what it owes for Manning’s injuries. The insurer disputes whether Manning’s wife, who’s a registered nurse, can be paid for providing him with care.

The insurer says it has no obligation to pay until all its appeals are settled.
