How to choose an attorney

When you select an attorney, do not take the first one you speak with. Talk to three or four and find one you are comfortable with who will have your interest at heart. One who will talk to you and shoot straight. Watch out for flamboyance or braggarts. Those are the ones who tell you how much they can get and all like that and sure enough, they can get it, but your pocket will be empty, because remember he told you what he could get, not what he could get for you. He will sell you down the river.

Attorneys have a rating system which you can get from the bar. After you interview one it is a good idea to check him out. Remember, they have gone to school to learn how to impress and finagle Judges and Juries. They are masters of the Dale Carneige System. There are some damn good ones out there. Unfortunatly the laws in Oregon make it so your attorneys fees are determined by the judge or court. The insurance companies don't have this restriction so their attorneys earn 2 to 3 times more. The only way your attorney can make good money is if you settle for what is always a very low amount. Our state has in effect turned your own lawyer against you.
